I am well aware of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, sir, having lived and administered it for 9 years. My point is not that anyone should support a breakdown in military discipline, if indeed that is what occurred. Rather, the fact that this is taking place years after the incident is disturbing to me and smells of political correctness rather than justice or discipline. That this episode has escallated out of control and is a matter of public discourse at a national level is embarassing to the United States. It should have been appropriately administered at the command level at the time, not thrust upon the national scene. The President, as Commander-in-Chief, can set this right.

Please do not suggest that Mr. Welsey is using this as a PR tool for the "right". It's called the right thing to do. If the military and the President refuse to provide leadership for these brave men then someone has to do it. These men trained and fought for your right and my right to speak on this forum and any other forum we choose. To suggest Mr. Wesley is doing this for political capital is outrageous and disrespectful. Nowhere have I seen Mr. Wesley suggest a breakdown in the chain of command. President Obama is the Commander in Chief, perhaps it's time he commands and leads instead of being led by the liberal media wonks and left wing loons that put him in office.
I wonder if people would feel differently if it were their relatives hanging and burning from that bridge. Let's hope neither of us ever have to find out.

I just read your letter to President Obama. You are not telling the truth when you say they are on trial for "blooding the lip of ... Abed while capturing him."
If you cannot tell the truth in a campaign, why should I trust you in Congress?

Be honest
The Seals are not on trial for capturing terrorists. They are on trial in a military court for assaulting a prisoner. That is a violation of
Do you seriously consider abuse of a prisoner, "military justice?"
I trust the US military to do the right thing. You apparently do not.
One question for you: Do you believe the Seals did not in any way harm the prisoner after capture, or do you think it is ok to assault a prisoner?
You want to be a Congressman ... go on record. What is your position?

Nonsense
Who has made this an issue? The Seals refused the slap on the wrist, claiming they are not guilty.
I am willing to take them at their word. It is the right who is turning this into a circus for their own political purpose.
Exactly what do you expect President Obama to do? They have claimed to be not guilty, and they deserve their day in court.
Supporting a breakdown in the chain of command is inappropriate. Let the military system work, without turning this into a PR tool for the right.
As for your claim this this is happening "years after the incident" ... wrong again. This has all happened in the past couple of months.

Let's have a live chat rather than an extended blog session
If you wish to discuss this, please contact me at tom@tomwesley.com and I will give you a number. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday.
