Economy: Jobs. Jobs. Jobs.
We need to reduce the tax and regulatory burdens on businesses, especially small businesses. Complicated tax credit formulas don't create jobs; increased demand does. We also need to lower corporate income taxes that compel corporations to export jobs to lower tax jurisdictions. We can bring jobs back to this country.
Homeland Security:
On the Global stage we must fight the war on terror through expanded Special Operations Forces utilization, not with large scale and unsustainable troop deployments. Extended troop deployments without end in sight leave us vulnerable to deterioration in force morale and hardware readiness. Here at home, we must control our borders through tough immigration enforcement that will prevent people from crossing the border, extending their stay on expired visas and deter those who wish to do us harm. Illegal means illegal. Until we fix the system, we cannot distinguish between those who envy our way of life from those who would destroy it.
Health Care Reform:
In order to ensure a healthy economic future, we must develop a health care system that provides portable coverage that will not bankrupt a family due to catastrophe, and removes the stigma of pre-existing conditions. Some States offer similar coverage today that can serve as a tested model for reform in the future. A national, single-payer option is not in the best interests of the country.
Education:
To meet the challenges of this century, we must produce college graduates skilled in math and science. We must also produce High School graduates who contribute immediately in the workforce. Too often, political rhetoric and petty games blur the importance of meaningful education reform. Our children deserve smaller classrooms and their schools must be held to the highest standards. No child ever reached his or her fullest potential in a failing school.
